Falcons drop 24-10 decision to Bengals

After a 37-34 overtime win over the New Orleans Saints, head coach admitted that going after quarterback Drew Brees would not be easy given his quick foot speed and even quicker release but against the Bengals, pressure was a must.  It just didn’t happen.

“We’ve got to put more pressure on the quarterback,” Head Coach Mike Smith said. “It’s not where we want to be after the first two games. And I think it has translated into us not playing the type of defense that we want. We haven’t been able to pressure the quarterback, nor have we been able to stop the run. And those are two issues that we definitely have to address and get better at.”

They didn’t “stop the run” to the tune of 90 yards and gave up nearly 500 in the 24-10 loss but they have the chance to right the ship as they take on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers this Sunday.  Plenty of great seats and cheap tickets still remain…Get yours today!

Falcons/Ryan prove too much for Saints

Matt Ryan proved that he was the man for the job behind center as he opened up the 2014 NFL season with a 37-34 Overtime victory over a very good New Orleans Saints team.  Offensively, the Falcons were firing on all cylinders as Ryan threw for a franchise high 448 yards and three touchdowns while the running game by committee was just as successful with 181 yards from scrimmage.

“He’s played a lot of games, made a lot of plays for us,” coach Mike Smith said. “But I was really impressed with his ability to extend some plays by moving around in the pocket. And he was very, very accurate. When you have (568 yards) of total offense and 448 through the air, your quarterback is playing well.”

The Falcons next face the Cincinnati Bengals on the road.  The Bengals are coming off a road win over the Baltimore Ravens.  Get your tickets and cheer on your Atlanta Falcons!

Baker out for the season

Starting left tackle Sam Baker has been lost for the season following a play in the second quarter against the Texans in which he tore his patella tendon. The Falcons lost the game 32-7.

This adds to the players which are beginning to pile up on the injured reserve list.  Baker joins guard Gabe Carami, tight end Micky Schuler, running back Stephen Jackson and most recently tackle Terren Jones.

The Falcons have a couple of options with this years Sixth overall draft selection Jake Matthews in the mix.

“We would have a number of options,” Head Coach Mike Smith said. “Again, our No. 1 goal would be to put the five best offensive linemen out there. We obviously know that he is one of the five best because he is a starter. Is he our best left tackle, our best option? That is something that we will have to determine if we have to address that.”

The Falcons play host to the Tennessee Titans this Saturday at 7 p.m.  Great seats and cheap tickets are still available so get yours NOW!
