RB Rainey runs roughshod over Falcons

You can’t exactly blame the Atlanta Falcons for not game-planning against a back pulled off the waiver wire last month and who only carried the ball for the first time six days ago. That would be a mistake.

“That’s my motivation, when people tell me what I can and cannot do,” Bobby Rainey said after rushing for 163 yards Sunday against the Falcons.

The Falcons fell under a relentless attack and a 21-point 2nd quarter that doomed them to a 48-21 blowout at the hands of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

“He’s stepped up. We put a lot on his plate, but he’s handled it well,” receiver Vincent Jackson said.

“He’s being very coach-able. He’s taking in everything that’s being asked of him, doing a great job in the passing game as well, picking up blocks,” he said. “I see the kid being successful the rest of this year. We put guys in position to be successful. Hats off to our coaches for working with him, putting the time in so he can go out there and compete.”

The schedule gets even harder for the Falcons as they meet the New Orleans Saints this Thursday night. Great seats and tickets are still available.

Gonzalez fights off rumors of trade demand

After losing to the Arizona Cardinals last weekend, the chorus of pundits calling for All Pro TE Tony Gonzalez to be traded to a winning teal allowing him a chance at a Super Bowl ring. Funny enough, non of these calls are being made by Gonzalez himself.

With the Falcons sitting at 2-5, Gonzalez says it is “understandable” that folks want to see a Super Bowl ring on his finger, but points out not at the expense of his current team.

“But, like I said, I love my guys on this team too much to go ask for a trade. It would be something that would come from them where they said, ‘Hey, it makes sense because we could get something good for you and send you to a team that’s a contender.’ So I understand the thought process behind that.”

The Falcons next face the Carolina Panthers this weekend and hope to add another win to Gonzalez’s victory column. Great tickets are still available.

Falcons face 49er’s for NFC Title

The Atlanta Falcons will face the San Francisco 49ers for the NFC Title this Sunday after narrowly defeating the Seattle Seahawks 30-28. Now the Falcons will face a 49er’s squad that pummeled the Green Bay Packers 45-31 in a game that set an NFL record for quarterbacks (which stood for 93 seasons) when Colin Kaepernick rushed for 181 yards and two touchdowns all the while passing for 263 yards.

”Our offensive line did an amazing job today,” Kaepernick said. ”They shut everybody down inside. Our receivers, our tight ends, blocked great outside, and our running backs were running hard, so it made it easier on me.”

The Falcons took out the Seattle Seahawks and their QB Russell Wilson but will face another challenge with the 49er’s/Kaepernicks read-option attack. They will also have to deal with one of the if not the fastest QB in the NFL.

“You’ve got to have vision on defense,” Coach Mike Smith said. “You can’t match up and play match coverages or man-to-man because when he gets in the secondary he’s a guy that can go the distance. He outran a number of fast players in the ball game on Saturday night.”

The game kicks off at 3 pm on Sunday afternoon.
